Person-centred counselling comes from a belief that every individual’s experience of life is unique and that everyone who comes to counselling should be taken as they come, and understood as a whole. Therefore, how I work with you is tailored for where you are and what you need at that moment.
It also hinges on the idea that you are the expert in yourself: no one knows you better than you. So I will not tell you about yourself or how you should be; I will try to understand you and your perspective, without criticism. I believe that you have the ability to heal and make changes in your life, and will support you in doing that.
What is person-centred counselling?
I believe that developing your awareness and understanding of yourself can help in untangling what is feeling difficult, so in therapy we explore your ideas of yourself: your thoughts, feelings and reactions. This can allow you to reconnect with yourself and find clarity in how you move forward.
Person-centred counselling also comes from the idea that the relationship between client and counsellor is key to the therapy and so it is really important that you find a counsellor who you feel is the right fit for you. I bring warmth and honesty into our sessions and it is important to me that you feel I provide a safe space where you feel completely accepted and your feelings validated.
